MUSIC
Our Kūpuna discovered that music is the sound created and made by Papa Honua, Mother Earth. It is told through oli, mele, hula, and the pahu, which is our encyclopedia of all things Kanaka Maoli. It continues on today and is surely a path for tomorrow, as it’s a part of our daily lives. It is said that there are as many musical instruments in Hawaiʻi as there are surfboards. The diversity of styles of music in Hawaiʻi has expanded greatly. We hope to capture and archive Kauaʻi’s great performers and composers of yesterday, today and tomorrow, so they are never forgotten.
Our mission is to work with our younger generations as we gather and archive information from Kauaʻi’s past to the present, with small production teams from north, south, east, and west, for full coverage, to document our island heritage and lifestyle. The teams will be primarily made up of high school students interested in the entertainment industry and the world, so they can expand their imagination.

ARTS
We will teach and demonstrate the techniques and methods used by our Kūpuna to make simple tools for farming, fishing, kapa making, weapons, to the more complex making of a sailing canoe, and the ultimate skill of celestial navigation, and the art of Way Finding. The introduction of modern techniques and applications of art will be well represented in our series of “Talk Story” sessions with our local artists.
